In 1999 Steve participated in the Sydney Leadership program founded by the Benevolent Society of New South Wales. With leaders from the private, public and not-for-profit sectors, Steve worked to use leadership in resolving complex social issues. Steve is now participating in various projects which have been generated by the Sydney Leadership program.
Since 2010, Steve has been on the Council of International House at the University of Sydney, and is now Deputy Chair. International House is a university owned and operated hall of residence accommodating around 200 undergraduate and postgraduate students. Originally formed in 1967, International House has welcomed over 4500 students from over 100 countries, providing them with not only accommodation, but pastoral care and many activities structured to encourage interaction with Australian students with a view to promoting mutual understanding and fellowship. Steve as been actively engaged in the management of the House and has acted as a mentor to many Australian and overseas students.
